DESCRIPTION:Hope Harbor is thrilled to announce an upcoming local training opportunity in collaboration with the Training Institute on Strangulation Prevention: Identifying\, Investigating\, and Prosecuting Domestic Violence and Sexual Assault Strangulation Cases.  \nAny professional handling sexual assault\, domestic violence\, child abuse\, elder abuse or human trafficking cases is encouraged to attend. This training has also been approved for 6.25 Continuing Legal Education credits by the KBA CLE Commission\, and Nursing Continuing Education Credits for this class are available through Med Center Health. \nTo help ensure this opportunity is accessible for all\, registration is free. \nThis nationally-recognized training will take place from 8:00am – 4:00pm on November 10th\, 2026 at the Med Center Health Western Kentucky Heart & Lung Auditorium\, located at 421 US 31W Bypass\, Bowling Green\, KY. Check-in will begin at 7:30am. \nIn this one-day in-person training\, leading experts in the field of non-fatal strangulation Dr. Bill Smock and Joe Bianco will share their expertise and cover the following: \n\n\nFindings from a study of 300 misdemeanor strangulation cases\n\n\n\n\nUnderstanding the lethality of strangulation\n\n\n\n\nLink to other crimes\, police shootings and mass murders\n\n\n\n\nIdentifying the signs and symptoms of strangulation cases\n\n\n\n\nAnatomy and medical aspects in surviving and non-surviving victims\n\n\n\n\nInvestigating and documenting a Domestic Violence and Sexual Assault Strangulation cases\n\n\n\n\nLegal aspects of strangulation cases with surviving victims\n\n\n\n\nDeveloping and using experts in court\n\n\n\n\nAdvocating for traumatized victims\n\n\n\n\n\nResources and handouts developed by the Institute\n\n\n\n\nRegistration is now open.
